MYOG Backpack #5

Welcome to my 5th backpack I’ve ever done made! This is made of cordura 220d, xpac ls07, xpac vx07, lycra mesh, elastic, 1.8mm cordage, components. My favorite part are the flush shoulder pockets. Check those out. Most of the bag is xpac ls07, aka LiteSkin Xpac.

Tight elastic compressed front pockets for “small stuff” — like a super tiny smart phone, perhaps πŸ™‚ Two larger pockets for sunglasses and a large phone.

The side pockets can fit two 50oz waterbottles for a total of 200oz of side pocket water capacity. I would never carry that much but it illustrates the pocket dimensions. Made of 220 cordura.

Another shot of those flush front pockets. I’m TMing those πŸ˜‰ I used xpac07 for the shoulder strap materials.

Bottom pocket for food (tm John Zahorian / palante packs). Those lines make me really happy — this is my 5th bag and I continue to improve each time.

  1. Hey Denny,

looks like a great pack for this purpose! I made quite a few similar designs myself, but for alpine climbing instead of distance hiking.

Now i ordered some LS07 fabric and think about using it for a lightweight climbing pack. And searching for some more real-world beta i found your video and webpage, thanks for both!

In the video you mention that LS07 is not really waterproof… that’s a bummer, as it should be one of the biggest advantages of LS07 over other fabrics such as dyneema x-grid. Can you give me a few more details about your experience regarding water? When new, the fabric seems to withstand a pretty high water column easily… but does it noticeably degrade during use? On your pack, did the fabric itself actually leak and can you rule out that it was perhaps more the design of the pack (no rolltop, no sealed seams)?

This information would be very, very helpful for me… spending a lot of time on a waterproof pack only to find the fabric leaking after a few weeks of use sounds highly frustrating πŸ™‚

  2. I like the look of the pack. I recently made my own and am ready to make another one. I have a couple questions if you don’t mind. Did you get your material from RSBTR? How did you bind the top of the front main pocket? And did you bind your seams on the inside? Thanks again. Tom

    1. Didn’t bind the seams, but did get it from RSBTR. I didn’t bind the front main pocket its just a zig zag stitch. Happy to help!
