Fabric Decisions in Practice

MYOG Quilt vs EE 20* Quilt

The MEMBRANE 10 taffeta deters absorption much better than the that used in my EE quilt.  In practice, when it’s absolute garbage out, the EE quilt keeps you warm, but it’s less comfortable.  I also need to be much more careful about compressing the down once it’s wet because it increases bunching and reduces the warmth of the quilt dramatically.

Using a material that can do better at repelling moisture will feel less comfortable (aka breathable) on your skin but the water repellant nature of the fabric keeps the actual down inside drier, maintaining loft and therefore insulation.

If venturing out into true bullshit weather, consider synthetic insulation & cheers to you for doing so.
